RATP Dev is the operator selected to design and operate the three-line light rail network for the city of Florence, within a Public Private Partnership.
The City of Florence wanted to build a new light rail network as part of a vast urban transport renovation program preserving its historic center. The consortium Tram Di Firenze SpA (Ratp Dev 25%, the municipal company operating the public bus network ATAF 24%, Architecna 2%, and a group of civil works and systems manufacturers* 49%) was selected to lead the construction of Lines 2 and 3, raise funding for the project and operate Lines 1, 2 and 3 for 30 years. (The building of line 1 was originally awarded to ATAF by the contracting Authorities). Ratp Dev leads the operating company Gest SpA (Ratp Dev 51%, ATAF 49%) entrusted to run the three-line.

After the start of Line 1's operations in October 2009, Line 2 (Peretola airport to Piazza Liberta via il Duomo Cathedral) and Line 3 will in turn become operational before the end of 2011. The three-line 29.5 km network will then serve the territory of the cities of Florence and Scandicci with a fleet of 43 trams manufactured by Ansaldo Breda.

Tram Di Firenze SpA will also study the optional extension of line 3.
* The CCC (Consorzio Cooperative Costruzioni) consortium includes: CTC, Baldassani Tognozzi, Alstom Transport SA, Alstom System SpA, Ansaldo breda SpA and Ansaldo Trasporti
